Beijing Zoo is a largest zoo in the northern section of Xizhumenwai-dajie, Beijing. It is made up of a pavilion and a thick forest which is 8,650 thousand cubic meters in size. It was used as a garden for the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, as a private forest for the family of the Emperor in the early Qing Dynasty and as an agricultural testing center for raising animals from Germany during the late Qing Dynasty.

There are over 3500 animals here and over 500 different kinds. The zoo includes the following areas: a panda section, a lion and tiger section, an elephant section, a black and white bear section, a bird section, an antelope section, a giraffe section, a monkey section, an orangutans section, a long-armed ape section, a sea animal section, a moderately fierce animal section, a wild animal section, an amphibian section and more. Beijing Aquarium, which is the largest inland in the world and so on, are dotted by the blue water, green lawn and graceful weeping willows, covering an area of about 90,000 square meters.

The building for the wild animal section of the zoo is 70,000 cubic meters in size. The most rare and precious animals found here are the panda and the Jinsiyuan which are considered highest ranking for preservation efforts. Beijing zoo is one of the large-scale zoos in the world.
